Introducing Danita Harris, our Interim Executive Director

My name is Danita Harris, I am honored to be the Interim State Director of the Oregon Working Families Party. As a native Oregonian, I am proud of our state and share the values of duty and family I learned living in communities throughout the Mid-Valley.

Over the past decade I have worked in Oregon politics in one form or another, be that as a student activist, a labor organizer, or a campaign worker and coordinator. Through working in different positions and fields I have always found purpose in bringing constituents closer to decision-makers and ensuring that decision-makers are not insulated from the needs of their communities.

Like many of you, I am excited at the prospects this new year brings and aware of the challenges. Together we can resist the threats to our democracy we've seen in DC and in Salem, but we must have honest conversations about white supremacy and race. While we are entering this year with significant struggles, we also have real opportunities. Together we can make investments in our communities that will rise to the challenges we face. We can make the choice to pursue a future for ourselves and our families that includes a just and fair Oregon, for us all. We can confront and dismantle systems that have worked to deny prosperity to working Oregonians and build our future, together.

I hope you join us as we move toward a progressive legislative agenda, work in coalition with community leaders, and partner with organizations that foster growth and will help bring in a bright future, even as we face an ongoing pandemic and economic crisis. Together we can rise to this challenge, and I know we will.
